I have been using Era Ultra Free for about 3 months and it does just as good a job on my wash as the Tide Free. The reason I tried it was that a friend who works at a Day Care told me that some of the parents used it for their kids clothes once they transitioned away from the special baby care detergents.

She also uses it for her work clothes which of course rarely come home stain free. It is terrific in getting out stains , especially protein based stains like blood and grass. I use it as a presoak or direct pretreater depending on the type and age of the stains. I have tried lots of brands of laundry detergent for this site, mainly hypoallergenic versions because I've always said my son has sensitivities.

That is true. But apparently I also have sensitivities to some laundry detergents as well. It all started when I tried a couple of scented versions that were supposedly still hypoallergenic, but they bothered me. However, I still figured it was the scent that was causing the trouble.

I never expected a scent and dye free product, like ERA, to bother me. So, when I finished one jug of detergent I grabbed this one from the shelf and began using it. Wouldn't you know I started using it right before a big blogging conference, and then something started making me itch just a few days before I was set to drive up to meet lots of women, making contacts and learning new things about my business. It started out slowly, like some allergies do.

I slathered on lotions, wondering what the problem is. Duh, finally I realized it was something I was using in the laundry, since clothes washed previously, with the old detergent didn't cause problems but within 15 minutes of putting something on that was newly washed, with this brand, I would begin to itch and scratch and generally feel a light burning sensation on my skin that would turn red.

Then, I blamed the hypoallergenic Snuggle dryer sheets , since other readers had reported reactions, and I had started using them at approximately the same time as the ERA. So I quit both products, since I wasn't completely sure which was causing it, had to stay up late re-washing everything to make sure I didn't look like a itchy strawberry at my conference, and immediately felt better. Several months later I got brave and thought I would re-try the detergent, since I wanted to report how it worked, still thinking it was the Snuggle sheets that had caused the trouble.

I used it for a couple more loads and, darn it, the same thing began again, but now there were no dryer sheets to blame. It was the detergent all along! Therefore, this detergent has now been trashed and will not ever be used in my laundry again. I have no idea what caused the problem, but it sure did bother me. Just me. Most relevant reviews.
