What is the difference between delete and backspace

It discards the character in front of the position of the cursor. This moves the entire character backwards toward the freed space. Basically, it appears as Del or Delete on majority of computer keyboards. The backspace deletes the left side of the cursor while the delete key omits towards the right side. In terms of deleting files, when the file is highlighted and backspaced is pressed, nothing happens. Pressing delete on the file it automatically removes it moving it to the recycle bin.

On Apple Macintosh computers using an Apple keyboard, the delete key is in the same location as the Backspace key on PC keyboards. Although the key is labeled as the "delete" key, it still functions the same as the "Backspace" key. In other words, with Apple keyboards, there's no Backspace key, only a delete key that deletes text to the left of the cursor.

Here is an example textarea box that can be used to test the delete and Backspace keys on your keyboard. The del and Backspace keys also have other differences. That is your keyboard cursor. When you are typing, the cursor lets you know that is where you will be placing your letters as you press them on the keyboard.

If you make a mistake there are two ways to delete the incorrect characters by using the keyboard. If the mistake is to the left of the cursor, use the Backspace key, as that will start deleting characters on the left side. If the incorrect characters on the right side of the cursor, then you will use the Delete key, as that will delete characters on the right side.

Some of the other keys that you may want to know about are Insert, Home, and End.
