When was taggart made
But Scottish broadcaster STV, which makes the show, is investigating ways of keeping the show on screen in Scotland. An ITV spokesman said: "Taggart has been one of ITV's most enduring dramas but, reflecting the demands of our audience and as part of the ongoing creative renewal of the ITV1 schedule, our priority is to invest in new and original drama for the channel. ITV and STV, which have been involved in a long-running legal dispute which was settled last month , put their commercial differences aside to co-fund one more series of Taggart last year.
UKTV also invested in the show in return for repeat rights for its Alibi channel. We are committed to the brand and recognise the continuing popularity of this long-running series.
A spokesman for Taggart's international distributor, DRG, added: "Taggart is a hugely popular series internationally. One particular example can be seen in The last two episodes of the 23rd series, "The Caring Game" and "Lifeline", were the last of the 90 minute episodes filmed before the new one hour format began. However, these were not broadcast at the time. Instead the ITV network broadcast all five episodes from the 24th series and the first episode of the 25th series, all one hour episodes.
This meant that the episode was shown well out of sequence. In the episode, DI Ross is faced with the choice of leaving for Canada, with his ex-wife and son, or staying in Glasgow.
However, viewers already knew that Ross was not leaving the programme, as numerous future episodes had already been broadcast. The other missing episode "Lifeline", was finally broadcast on 30 December of that year. The vocals were originally performed by Maggie Bell , formerly a member of Stone the Crows. Between and , the theme appeared only as an instrumental version, but the original lyrics were restored in , with the tune re-recorded by singer, Karina Smillie.

Taggart was conceived as something different — not a police procedural like The Bill, but an Agatha Christie-style whodunnit, and arguably the precursor to the Nordic noir now so familiar to our screens.
But it was not born in gritty Glasgow. His brief was simple: a whodunnit set on the Clyde. It would be a pilot, but there was every chance it could stay a one-off. Industrial decline, class tensions, gentrification — there was rarely a preoccupation in Glasgow that did not reach Taggart. But while the show would not shy away from brutal deaths and challenging social issues, the action is inflected with wicked humour from the off.
